Osteopathic treatment during pregnancy and postpartum, and for babies.
Pregnancy & Postpartum
In pregnancy, having osteopathic treatment can assist with hip, lower back, or sciatic-type pains associated with the pregnancy, encourage proper alignment of the pelvis in preparation for birth, and facilitate ease of breathing and digestion as your baby grows. During the postpartum stage, osteopathic treatment is very effective in easing any upper back, shoulder, and neck tension that may arise from feeding and holding your baby. Cranial and structural osteopathic techniques can be used to relieve any residual pelvic pain or lower back pain from pregnancy and birth. Osteopaths can also work on scar tissue to release tension or adhesions that may be forming. |
Baby Osteopathy
Babies, though resilient, can be hugely impacted by the process of labour and birth. Having a post-birth check with an osteopath can help with a range of common complaints, such as feeding and latching issues, head shape or head favouring, reflux, wind, symptoms of colic, constipation, or even just general unsettledness. Osteopathic treatment can ease your baby’s discomforts and leave the whole family feeling better for it! I'm passionate about osteopathy for breastfeeding issues. There are so many muscles, joints, and nerves involved in breastfeeding that sometimes even a small tension can have a huge impact. It's not all about tongue ties! Nipple pain, flat or blistered nipples, recurring mastitis, head favouring/breast favouring, and weight gain issues with baby - these are things that can often be helped by baby osteopathic treatment. |
For older babies and children, osteopathic treatment can help with movement development, some illnesses such as ear or sinus infections, as well as the knocks and falls common in childhood. At the Norfolk Clinic in Whangarei CBD, I offer discounted Mum & Baby combined sessions for new families so that it is more accessible for you to take care of yourself as well as your little one after birth. |
